At the beginning of a new homeschool year, when the supplies are organized and I have big plans for all the books, projects, and art we’re going to enjoy together, It is easy to think that art and creative activities will easily be a part of our homeschool this year.
Then real life happens, the days get fuller, and before we know it, all those creative plans start getting pushed to “maybe tomorrow” because “there’s just not enough time.”
Making Room for Creativity in Your Homeschool
But over the years, I’ve learned that a creative homeschool doesn’t have to mean constantly coming up with creative ideas.
Usually, it simply means making a little space for creativity to happen.
Creativity Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated
Sometimes creativity looks like an elaborate project spread across the kitchen table.
But most of the time? It can be much simpler.
A box of chalk pastels. A favorite story or your current history lesson. Twenty minutes together at the table.
These small moments add up and they can change the entire feel of a homeschool day.
Art gives our kids a chance to slow down, use their imaginations, and experience what they’re learning in a completely different way.
It also gives us something I think homeschool families need more of:
A chance to enjoy learning together.
