Cloud Dough Hands On Preschool Activity
Perfect for a rainy afternoon! We used the recipe from Tinkerlab. If you head on over to her post she has a printable version of the cloud dough recipe.
Here’s how we made ours:
- 8 cups of flour
- 1 cup of oil (we used sunflower oil because that is all I had on-hand.)
- 5 drops of lavender essential oil
Make a big mound of flour in a plastic bin. Dig a small crater in the center and pour the oils. Mix everything together with your hands (or better yet have your kids mix it.) Once everything is blended together, it will have a light, powdery feel yet it is moldable.
I added lavender essential oil to give a little scent (plus lavender can help calm and soothe children.) We used Cloud Dough just like we would Play Dough. It was a great (but messy) sensory activity for the girls. It was a perfect activity to help combat rainy day blues!

Growing a love of art at You ARE an ARTiST is a multi-generational passion! Tricia is Nana’s daughter and a mama of five children. Nana shared the fun of her first chalk pastel art lessons with her grandchildren around Tricia’s kitchen table. Homeschooling since 2000, Tricia has seen the fruits of home education with four homeschool grads so far! She shares the art and heart of homeschooling at Your Best Homeschool and is author of the book, Help! I’m Homeschooling! She and her husband, Steve, are also owners of sister sites Homeschool Nature Study and The Curriculum Choice.
