One of our favorite letter A activites is the A is for Astronaut printable page from our ABC printable bundle!
Astronaut begins with A.
Asteroid does too.
Up and away the rocket goes.
Exploring space is what astronauts do.
Astronaut and Space Books
Read On the Moon by Anna Milbourne – gives a glimpse of what it would be like to fly in outer space!
Constellations: A Glow-in-the-Dark Guide to the Night Sky by Chris Sasaki – You can read this book or simply show your child some of the glow-in –the-dark constellations. My friend, Maureen, shared her experience sharing the book at a homeschool co-op, “They loved it! I talked about how sometimes groups of stars remind us of pictures. Then we looked at the picture and noted where the stars were on the picture. Next we turned off the lights –I thought they’d be a little afraid, but they loved seeing the stars glow!”
After showing the constellations, we talked about other things we see in the sky. Then I laid out photos of the 8 planets (something I got when I was a 1st grade teacher) and planet sequence cards from 1+1+1=1’s Solar System Preschool Pack. We counted the planets. We talked about which planet we live on. We pointed out which was the 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc. planets.
Sing Songs
Then we sang a Planets Song:
There are eight planets in our solar system
There are eight planets in our solar system
Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
There are eight planets in our solar system.
(sung to “She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain”)
Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star is another fun one to sing!

Preschool ABC Art Activities
As soon as children are old enough to be interested in art and have enough fine motor skills to grasp a crayon or chalk pastel, they can begin doing art.
Before we go into how to introduce them to art and share some fun, age-appropriate lessons, it is essential to note that art should be just for fun. There should be no pressure on these young children to create an art project that looks just like the lesson.
The lessons can be a fun guide for them, but they must be allowed to explore their creativity and have fun. As they get older, there will be plenty of time to work on honing their techniques.
- Builds Fine Motor Skills
- Promotes Creativity
- Increases Memory
- Increases Future Academic Performance
